Best song from K-Pop Demon Hunters, HANDS DOWN!
Anyway, hello friends! It’s been quite a while—about 2 months, yeah? I’m feeling rusty with blogging, so let me warm up with a lil catch-up list. Since the last time I wrote to you all, I have done the following (not necessarily in chronological order):
Fangirled over K-Pop Demon Hunters, if that wasn’t obvious
Quit my job (the way my bowels regulated themselves the minute I wasn’t working this job anymore… the body knows!)
Gone camping with my chosen fam
Celebrated birthdays and a baby shower
Flown to Oregon for a besties trip <3 (this is me holding me accountable for a recap post)
Witnessed my grandpa-in-law become an ancestor
Attended a writing retreat and wrote new poems (gotta go back and actually finish them)
Ached for the world, particularly the war-torn and mentally ill
Participated in a cool focus group about equity in California ocean access and management
Wrote and performed a new poem
Worked on a translation project for a film (Still in progress, very exciting! Working on a film has been on my creative bucket list for a long time, so this still feels like such a pinch-me moment)
Went to my dentist, optometrist, and doctor (slowly but surely I will secure an acupuncturist and a therapist!)
Woke up to the natural alarm clock of my parents bickering (why must they argue about the same thing every morning)
Completed 2 rounds of interviews (1st and final round) for a staff position at a university (go me! working FT as a university staff is on my job bucket list)
Explored the possibility of an adjunct faculty position at another university (teaching at a university is also on my job bucket list)
Made progress in wedding planning
Deepened my partnership in preparation for marriage, shoutout to Cha Thông for being the best facilitator
Caught up with friends who are also on a career break or just free when I’m free to eat, yap, exercise, relax, and practice yoga
Celebrated an exhilarating and local double bach with gals who are control freaks just like me via ziplining, revolving bar, and social dancing alongside the redwoods and the ocean
Started home improvement projects for the front yard
Spent time with my mom in the ER and ICU. She was feeling better enough to go home after 48 hours, thank goodness! I’m so thankful for kind and attentive hospital staff. To be honest, I could write a whole blog post about being at the hospital. I can’t tell if I am thankful or not to be so familiar with navigating the hospital for loved ones though…
Got better at accepting that I cannot invest in all of my relationships at once and that this will not be the end of the world nor does it make me a terrible person
There’s so many more things I could add to this list from my journals & calendars and things that I could dive deeper into that I’ve listed here, but it’s almost 2:00 AM, so I should hit the hay. It feels good to recalibrate with this muscle of blogging though. I have no idea how coherent my thoughts are—please excuse all the typos and fragments. As much as I have qualms about how to do it, I do want to document my life and my thoughts. I want undeniable evidence that I am alive. I supposed all these lil corners of the internet that I show up in are proof of that.
I hope you know that I care that you are alive too. You matter more than you probably even realize. No matter how weird life is, I think it’s worth it. You know?
Signing off,
An
